We love pizza night at our house! My son will tell you in a heartbeat, if you ask him, that he wants cheese pizza. Actually he wants pepperoni pizza and more actually than that he wants turkey pepperoni. What can I saw he is particular, he gets that from me.
I have really been on kick of Freezer Prepping and getting meals planned and ready ahead of time. So i decided to try my hand at calzones! I have made them before but I wanted to try a little different technique this time.
I have seem the technique where you roll out dough, cut, fill the calzone and then fold and seal it up. I wanted to try something a little less messy.
I bought 2 cans of dough, rolled each one out with a rolling pin until the were thin. I created 12 small heaps of toppings and sauce and then I carefully laid the second dough on top. I sealed the edges around the heaps, cut them separate with a knife and double checked that they were sealed tightly, placed them on a cookie sheet to bake sheet to bake.
- Dough ( 2 cans)
- Marinara sauce
- toppings of choice (turkey pepperoni, mushrooms, mozzarella cheese, parmesan cheese)
- red pepper flakes
Decide on your technique that you would like to use, either the cut and fold method or the
“blanket” method. Only fill with a small amount of toppings so that you can seal the pocket up all the way. Using your fingers or a fork press the edges so that the toppings don’t spill on the sheet and burn in the oven. Bake at 425 for about 12 minutes. Watch them carefully so that they don’t burn on the bottom. Unless you’re like me and a little burnt is a little nice.
If you make extra and want to freeze them, let them cool completly, plase them on a cookie sheet and pop them in the freezer, once they are completly frozen, label a gallon size ziploc bag place the frozen calzones in the bad and store them back in the freezer!
So good! So convenient and So nice to have for a quick lunch or dinner!!!
Try them and let me know what you think!! I would love to hear from you.
